TRAIL: Get on Board!

Transportation Resource to Aid Independent Living

batter up

TRAIL (Transportation Resource to Aid Independent Living) provides transportation services for developmentally disabled adults to recreational and educational programs sponsored by AR&LE (Adaptive Recreation & Learning Exchange).

TRAIL's riders live on their own in Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina and Richfield. Through donations and fundraising, TRAIL subsidizes the cost of transportation, so riders pay a nominal fee for each ride.

TRAIL is a nonprofit service organization formed in 1990 by parents, consumers, and professionals.

Fun facts

  • Ninety-five percent of TRAIL's fundraising proceeds go directly to transportation costs! Board members are non-paid volunteers.
  • Riders pay $3 roundtrip, with TRAIL paying over 80% of the actual transportation costs. Without TRAIL's help, riders would pay $10 per trip.
  • In 1991, TRAIL provided 18 trips.
  • In 2009, TRAIL provided 232 trips!
