Winter Fete: One coooool week in January!

Join Bloomington Parks and Recreation and area sponsors in welcoming winter during the 10th Annual Winter Fete celebration.

This year, Winter Fete activities will take place throughout the City from Saturday, January 19, through Sunday, January 27.

Kick off Winter Fete by attending Minnesota Hockey day events at Westwood and Running Parks or the all new Family Sledding event at Brookside Park. Be sure to check out the many other activities including the Pond-Dakota Winter History Festival, International Ski Jumping Competition, and other great events during this winter celebration!

All Winter Fete activities are free unless otherwise noted, and fun for the whole family!

Saturday, January 19

Minnesota Hockey Day Kennedy Mites versus Jefferson Mites
at Running Park

Watch Kennedy and Jefferson Mites players battle it out throughout the day during a six-game exhibition as part of Minnesota Hockey Day.

Fat Bike Race and Demonstrations
Minnesota River Bottoms Trail


Start: Lyndale Avenue Boat Launch area
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Get Phat with Pat on January 19! This race will start and finish at the southern end of Lyndale Avenue, underneath the 35W bridge. Registration (located near the start/finish line) opens at 9 a.m. and closes 30 minutes prior to race start.

Course: The mostly single-track course starts and goes about 4 miles west of 35W before turning around near the old RR swing bridge, then heading back to the finish line near the 35W bridge for a total of around 8 miles. It will be a full-loop, with one section of trail heading out and another heading back.

Classes: All are mass-start.

  • Beginner – 1 lap: Race starts at 10:15 a.m. Entry fee: $10.
  • Recreational – 1 lap: Race starts at 10 a.m. Entry fee: $10.
  • Advanced – 2 laps: Race starts at 12 noon. Entry fee: $10.

All styles of bikes are welcome. Depending on course conditions and entries, there might be a separate class for non-fat-tire bikes. Spectators are welcome!

Prizes: A huge number of door prizes will be awarded, Including a 9:ZER0:7 fat bike frame as the grand prize.

Minnesota Hockey Day Girls Hockey Program
at Westwood Park

All Bloomington and Richfield girls are invited to come out and try hockey and enjoy treats on MN Hockey Day. We will have hockey sticks available and parents to help answer questions about our program.

Sled-Stravaganza!
at Brookside Park

UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to the yo-yo weather we've had to cancel the sledding portion of Sled-Stravaganza. Come over anyway! We'll still have Rock N’ Roll Ice Skating!

Come over to Brookside Park during the afternoon for some rock 'n' roll ice skating. Bring a cardboard sled (duct tape it! paint it!) for the cardboard sled races – with awards for longest run, best design and spirit.

Be ready for an overload of free fun for all ages.

International Nordic Ski Jumping Competition
at Bush Lake Ski Jump

8401 East Bush Lake Road, Bloomington
6 - 10 p.m.

Walk-in admission: $5 for anyone over 12 years of age.

International Nordic Ski Jumping hits the Twin Cities scene on the evening of Wednesday, January 23, under the stadium lights at the Bush Lake Ski Jumps in Bloomington.

Elite athletes from NORWAY, FINLAND, POLAND and all across USA will be taking to the skies in head-to-head competition. Many former and future Olympians will be there, perfecting their form in the second leg of the Midwestern 4 Hills Tour. Skiers will be soaring up to 300 feet for trophies and cash prizes.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the tournament begins at 7 p.m. Walk-in admission is $5 for anyone over 12 years of age. Limited on-site parking is available first-come, first-serve with a flat rate of $20 per vehicle. Come enjoy our brand-new chalet to watch all the high-flying action indoors!

Register your team for this popular and exciting winter sport at Tretbaugh Park. This tournament, open to Men's and Co-Rec divisions, is an MSF-sanctioned event and USA Broomball rules apply. USA Broomball certified referees will be used.

Ice Harvest Festival
at Richardson Nature Center

8737 East Bush lake Road, Bloomington
11a.m. - 3 p.m.

Cost: $7 per person, ages 3 and older.

Drop in any time and discover Minnesota's history before electric refrigerators, when hardy ice harvesters sawed massive blocks of ice out of frozen lakes and ponds to keep food chilled during warmer months.

Meet ice harvesting historian Tim Graf and costumed interpreters from The Landing - Minnesota River Heritage Park. Cut blocks of ice out of the pond with an old-fashioned ice saw, pull an antique ice plow, weigh blocks of ice, and try out other historical ice-harvesting tools that can still be used today. Learn about water quality and ice safety. Keep warm outdoors by a campfire and indoors with hot cocoa.

This is a great event for families, grandparents, and people interested in Minnesota's ice harvesting history. .

Pond Dakota Winter History Festival
at Pond Dakota Mission Park

401 East 104th Street, Bloomington
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Entrance fee: $3 per person (under 4, free).

Experience winter on the Minnesota frontier from a horse-drawn sleigh! Sleigh rides will be given continuously from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Back by popular demand this year is an authentic logging camp where you can try your hand using the historic tools of the logging industry, and take home your own fire-branded log section.

Stop off at the historic Gideon and Agnes Pond House to warm up around the fireplace with some hot cocoa or cider, and enjoy music presentations throughout the day. Play traditional Native American and pioneer outdoor games including the ever popular snow snakes game!

Free hot cider, cocoa and other treats will be available throughout the day.

Limited parking is available in the Pond Dakota Mission Park parking lot. Please do not park along the driveway. Additional free parking is available at Emmanuel Lutheran Church or in the Kelly Playfield lot.
