Traffic safety

A community emphasis program

Teenage girl speeding.

We all want safe residential streets for our families. A frequently voiced concern from neighborhoods is traffic volume and speeding! Other concerns expressed include: stop sign violation and failure to yield the right-of-way.

The Bloomington Police Department recognizes the importance of traffic compliance and safety. We work with Neighborhood Watch areas to accomplish this goal. Efforts include the use of our "speed trailer" and strict enforcement of traffic laws.

What you can do:

Traffic safety begins with YOU, the individual driver. This may mean reevaluating your driving habits. Make sure you:

  • Leave enough time to get where you are going so you do not need to speed.
  • Come to a complete stop at stop signs.
  • Yield the right-of-way at intersections.
  • Drive safely through residential areas - starting with your own neighborhood!
  • Make it a priority to drive in accordance with traffic laws.

Together we will:

  • Identify target areas within the community for enforcement efforts.
  • Encourage our neighbors to drive safely.
  • Discuss ongoing educational and enforcement efforts at ALL Neighborhood Watch meetings.
  • Take enforcement action when deemed appropriate.
