Normandale Lake Boulevard
Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project
Normandale Lake Boulevard road closure
Normandale Lake Boulevard will be closed on Monday, August 8 at 6:00 a.m. from American
Boulevard to approx. 500' south of the intersection. The current closure from W 83rd St
to approx. 100' north on Normandale Lake Boulevard will be removed at this time.
The duration of this closure will be approximately 1 month. Traffic will also be reduced to
one lane in both directions on American Boulevard at Normandale Lake Boulevard later in the
week of August 8. During this closure, the contractor will be installing new sanitary
sewer, using a trenchless method called "guided boring."
What is the scope of this project?
The sanitary sewer pipe in Normandale Lake Boulevard is under capacity for the expected growth
in development in the Normandale Lake District, west of Normandale Boulevard. Recent
Comprehensive Plan amendments and zoning changes have allowed an increase in residential units
and hotel rooms and a decrease in office density in the district, west of Normandale Boulevard.
A public improvement project is being proposed that will re-route sanitary sewer flow from
under-sized pipes to pipes that are sized to handle additional flow. This sanitary sewer
improvement will be performed by trenchless installation to minimize the impact on traffic flow
and disruption in the area.
How is the project funded?
The costs of this project will be assessed to the benefitting property owners.
What is the project schedule?
The City plans on constructing this sanitary sewer in the early summer of 2011. Installation
and restoration is projected to be complete by early fall 2011.
