Bloomington Ferry Road Multi-modal Facility Maintenance Project![]() What is the scope of this project?City staff has designed construction plans for converting and upgrading the 1.03 mile segment of Bloomington Ferry Road trail from Pioneer Trail to 106th Street. This project will consist of removing the existing deteriorated eight-foot wide trail and constructing a new ten-foot wide trail. The existing concrete sidewalk will be removed from Pioneer Trail to Zinran Avenue, but the remainder of the concrete sidewalk will remain in place. It also includes replacement of the retaining wall at the intersection of Pioneer Trail and Bloomington Ferry Road. In the approved Alternative Transportation Plan (ATP), this 1.03 mile segment is proposed for reconstruction from an 8-foot wide to a 10-foot Core Linking Trail.
How is the project funded? The project will be paid as part of the Pavement Management Program funds using the Infrastructure Replacement Fund distributed by the State of Minnesota from fuel sales tax and license tab fees along with General Fund augmentation. No assessments are proposed. What is the project schedule? The City plans on constructing this path in the fall of 2011. Path construction is anticipated to begin after Labor Day, with most of the work completed by November 2011. We walk/bike this path frequently. How are pedestrians/bicyclists going to be impacted?Since the work directly involves the path, there will be times when the path is closed and pedestrians/bicyclists will need to find alternative routes for safety reasons. Watch for signs directing you to the open sidewalk. I take the bus that stops along this road. How does this construction affect me?The City of Bloomington has met with Met Transit during the planning stages of the project. Met Transit will be relocating the various bus stops within the construction zone. Please look for the Met Transit postings at the bus stop for specific relocation information. We appreciate your cooperation and acknowledge that it is an inconvenience.
