Bush Lake Trails Project![]() What is the scope of this project? Most of the trails will be reconstruction of the existing bituminous or wood chip trails. The deteriorated bituminous and wood chipped trails will be replaced in the existing alignment. This will allow us to save the most trees and other natural features that make these trails so special. There will be some minor regrading, realignment and tree removal as the existing trails are brought into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. One new trail segment is proposed, which is located at the southeast side of Bush Lake that would connect the existing trails on the north side of Bush Lake Road to the existing off road trail on the east side of the lake.
How is the project funded? The City of Bloomington has received two Metropolitan Council grants that are to be used for trail construction in Bush Lake Park along with a Statewide Heath Improvement Program grant. What is the project schedule? The City plans on constructing this path in the early summer of 2011. Path construction near the park shelters is anticipated to be substantially complete by Memorial Day, with the new trail segment on the southeast side of Bush Lake projected to be mostly complete by the Fourth of July. We walk/bike this path a lot during the summer. How are pedestrians/bicyclist going to be impacted?Since the work directly involves the path, there will be times when the path is closed and pedestrians/bicyclists will need to find alternative routes for safety reasons. Watch for signs directing you to the open sidewalk.
