Normandale Lake District Improvements

Normandale Lake District Urban Design Location Map

The Normandale Lake District (NLD) Plan, approved at City Council, May 18, 2008, outlines proposed investments in design enhancements in the NLD. Investment in public areas is a significant tool to advance an identity and image that is consistent with the overall vision established for the District.

The short term improvements for the district have been divided into three projects:

  • NLD - West. This project is now complete. It included intersection improvements and signal installation at both West 83rd Street and Normandale Lake Boulevard and Norman Center Drive and American Boulevard, widening W. 83rd Street and modifying Norman Center Drive to change a portion to one way north as indicated in the Normandale Lake District Plan, replacement of the existing storm sewer in Norman Center Drive between W. 83rd Street and the project limits and replacing the sidewalk along Normandale Lake Boulevard between W. 84th and W. 83rd Streets with a 10-foot trail.
  • NLD - East. This project is currently under way in association with the 84th Street Area Improvements. This project includes realignment of the Stanley Road/W. 82nd Street curve to a 30 MPH design, a new right turn lane on southbound Stanley Road at W. 84th Street, a modification to the northeasterly curb radius of W. 84th Street and Stanley Road, and other minor geometric improvements, signal modifications and sidewalk/bikeway widening.
  • NLD - Urban Design. This project includes installing gateway signs in four locations, constructing enhanced transit nodes with signage at four locations, installing park kiosks in four locations and improved landscaping in two locations, per the Normandale Lake District Urban Design and Signage Master Plan which was approved at City Council on March 2, 2009.
