Garbage and recycling in Bloomington

Thank you for caring for our environment!

The City coordinates garbage pickups and recycling efforts. We encourage you to buy only as much as you need, reuse whenever possible and recycle items you no longer want to others who could use them.

Help control the products that are dumped into the waste stream. Reduce – buy only what you need, rent equipment you use infrequently and think about the environmental consequences of your purchases. Reuse – if you no longer need something, give it to someone who can use it and check out used goods before purchasing new. Recycle – given a chance, many items can be transformed into something new.

Did you know?
Compostable bags are now required for all curbside yard waste

A 2010 law for the seven-county metro area requires that all curbside yard waste must be placed in recyclable bags – bags made of paper or compostable plastic.

Haulers are required to leave behind yard waste that has been collected in non-recyclable plastic yard bags.
