I-494 closing Aug. 12-14

Motorists in Bloomington and Richfield will experience delays and detours as both directions of I-494 close between Highway 77/Cedar Avenue and I-35W at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12.

Frontage road closures will also occur close between Lyndale Avenue and Portland Avenue at 10 p.m. on Aug. 12-15.

The closures are needed as crews paint the 2nd Avenue pedestrian bridge. During the closure a posted detour will direct motorists to use Highway 77/Cedar Avenue, Highway 62 and I-35W.

Both directions of I-494 will reopen by 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 14. The frontage roads will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15.

 

Nicollet Avenue Bridge Closure Aug. 1

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will be closing the Nicollet Avenue bridge spanning I-494, including ramps to and from I-494, beginning at 7 p.m. August 1, 2011.

A marked detour will be provided using Lyndale Avenue, W. 77th Street, Portland Avenue and American Boulevard. The project is expected to be completed by the end of September.

The closure is to allow for bridge rehabilitation work which includes resurfacing, and curb, gutter and sidewalk replacement. Additional closures throughout the project will include a closure of the 2nd Avenue pedestrian bridge spanning I-494 for rehabilitation work, periodic nighttime lane closures along I-494, as well as a weekend closure of I-494 for bridge painting.

A public information meeting was held Monday, May 23 to outline upcoming construction activities, project design and other aspects of the bridge rehabilitation project for Nicollet Avenue and 2nd Avenue spanning Interstate 494 in Bloomington and Richfield.

Members of the project team provided information about the project. Layouts of the design were displayed during the open house, as well as schedule information.
