Wastewater pumping station at Oxborough and Nine Mile Creek Parkway to be upgraded in 2010

Lift station.
Oxborough Lift Station No. 9

The Utilities Division operates and maintains 28 wastewater pumping stations throughout the City. Periodically the City upgrades stations to a standardized design to improve safety, maintenance and performance. Recent improvements have been made in the Metropolitan Council Environmental Services wastewater collection system to better serve the cities of Bloomington and Edina. In conjunction with that project, pumping capacity improvements were required at the Bloomington pumping station located at Oxborough Ave. S. The city of Bloomington used this opportunity to simultaneously upgrade the electrical panel, controls and monitoring system at the station to conform to current city standards. This upgrade matches similar control equipment improvements that were also completed this year at 3 other Bloomington pumping stations.

The existing underground pumping structure will be reused and a pair of new submersible pumps will be installed. New valves and piping will also be installed along with new electrical service, provisions for emergency power supply, and improved monitoring and control equipment.

The station will be equipped with control and radio telemetry equipment that continuously monitors the station for any condition that may require emergency intervention.

The new installations will start the first week of December. While the work is being conducted, a portion of Oxborough Avenue and Nine Mile Creek Parkway will be blocked off for temporary pumping equipment and piping. Access to the residential driveways will be maintained throughout the project, but the block will be closed to through traffic. Once the station pumps and equipment have been successfully returned to service, the temporary pumps will be removed and traffic will be permitted. Construction should be completed by December 31, 2010. Final restoration of areas disturbed by excavation will be completed in the Spring of 2011.
