Project updatesBush Lake Trails projectThe updates listed below refer to Bush Lake Trails project. To find updates regarding other projects, go to major road construction projects. July 2011July 29, 2011The project is substantially complete. A few punch list items remain. July 22, 2011The contractor will be restoring the pedestrian lighting system and installing permanent signing the week of July 25. July 15, 2011Grading, installing topsoil and seed or sod to restore the areas will continue. The main area left is along the trail adjacent to East Bush Lake Road. Given the extremely hot forecast, this work may not occur next week. July 8, 2011All the path segments on the project have been paved! The contractor will continue grading, installing topsoil and seed or sod to restore the disturbed areas. July 1, 2011Minor concrete work will occur the week of July 5 with the installation of a couple pedestrian ramps and some pads for concrete trash receptacles. The contractor will finish grading the path along East Bush Lake Road and anticipates paving this segment towards the end of the week. Restoration will continue along the various trail segments. There is a section along West Bush Lake Road near Oakmere where the contractor placed erosion control blanket down on the areas to be sodded as temporary erosion control. With the hot & dry forecast the sodding of this area was postponed to the week of July 5. June 2011June 24, 2011Most of the trail segments have been paved. Concrete work at the segment near the picnic tables pads including the driveway panel and pedestrian ramps has completed. Storm sewer work has completed and retaining wall work should complete on June 24 on the new segment along E. Bush Lake Road. Restoration of the disturbed areas next the trails continues. Due to the recent weather conditions, grading will continue and is anticipated to finish on the new segment along East Bush Lake Road during the week of June 27 with the possibility of paving this segment late in the week (weather permitting), along with paving of the remaining trail segments on the west side of the lake. June 20, 2011Most of the trail segments have been paved. Concrete work at the segment near the picnic tables pads including the driveway panel and pedestrian ramps continues. Storm sewer and retaining wall work will continue into the week of June 20 on the new segment along E. Bush Lake Road. Restoration of the disturbed areas next the trails continues. Grading is anticipated to finish on the new segment along East Bush Lake Road during the week of June 20. June 10, 2011Most of the trail segments have been paved. The segment near the picnic tables pads and a concrete driveway have not as the concrete needs to be installed first. The concrete work will occur during the week of June 13. Restoration of the disturbed areas next the trails continues. Grading will continue along the new segment of trail along East Bush Lake Road during the week of June 13. June 3, 2011Paving the trail segments has begun and will continue into the week of June 6. The contractor will begin grading the new segment of trail along East Bush Lake Road during the week of June 6. May 2011May 27, 2011The paving of the trail segments got pushed back due to weather and is now scheduled for Tuesday, May 31 and Wednesday, June 1, weather permitting. This includes the path from West Bush Lake Road through the woods to Shelter 1, the paths around Shelter 1, the path from the trail segment south of the entrance to the park at W. 95th Street toward the trail crossing of the driveway north of shelter 2, Brown's point to the boat landing and the trail connections. Construction on the walls near the underpass continues and should be complete mid next week. Once the walls are complete, the segment of trail along West Bush Lake Road could be paved. Removals and grading of the existing trail segment on the south of Bush Lake will continue during the week of May 30 and the contractor expects to begin grading the new segment of trail along East Bush Lake Road towards the end of the week. May 20, 2011Paving many of the trail segments is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24, weather permitting. This would include the path from West Bush Lake Road through the woods to Shelter 1, the paths around Shelter 1, the path from the trail segment south of the entrance to the park at W. 95th Street toward the trail crossing of the driveway north of shelter 2, Brown's point to the boat landing and the trail connections. Construction on the walls near the underpass continues and should be complete mid next week. Once the walls are complete, the segment of trail along West Bush Lake Road could be paved. Removals and grading of the existing trail segment on the south of Bush Lake will continue during the week of May 23 and the contractor expects to begin grading the new segment of trail along East Bush Lake Road towards the end of the week. May 13, 2011The contractor plans on installing rock on the trail segment south of the entrance to the park at W. 95th Street towards the trail crossing of the driveway north of shelter 2. The removal work around Shelter 1 and the parking area was delayed given an event to be held at Shelter 1 the weekend of May 14/15. Work in this area will begin the week of May 16. The next segment that the contractor will work on will be from Brown's Point to the boat launch. May 6, 2011The trail along West Bush Lake Road has been removed and been surfaced with rock. The final layer of pavement will be installed after the retaining walls at the underpass beneath West Bush Lake Road are reconstructed. The contractor will be removing, grading and installing rock during the week of May 9 on the trail segment that connects from West Bush Lake Road towards Shelter 1 and on other trail segments surrounding Shelter 1 and the parking area.
April 2011April 29, 2011The Contractor will begin removal of the existing bituminous trail surface along West Bush Lake Road on May 2. Motorists should be aware that there may be intermittent lane closures with flagmen to facilitate these removals. Clearing and grubbing of trees will also continue. April 25, 2011Tree trimming and removal are scheduled for the week of April 25 along with erosion control installation activities. April 15, 2011The Contractor plans on starting work for the project on April 25 with installation of erosion control items and tree removals since these items do not require the use of heavy vehicles. Removal of existing trail surface is anticipated to begin on May 2 but is dependent on removal of road restrictions. Currently there are spring load restrictions in place that restrict the weight on any single axle on all non-exempt trucks and commercial vehicles to a maximum of five tons on non-concrete state highways, county highways, town roads and city streets. These went in place on March 14. Historically they have gone in place about a month earlier in February. Mn/DOT uses actual and forecasted daily air temperatures to determine the placement and removal of spring load restrictions. Typically the end of spring load restrictions is about eight weeks after they went into place. We are hoping road restrictions come off around May 1, but with the possibly freezing temperatures in the forecast that may not be realistic, especially since it would only be about six weeks from when they went into effect. Restart of construction will be based on road restrictions being removed and we may have to wait until May 15 or longer based on MnDOT's calculation.
