Applying for jobs online is a new process that is currently only available for Parks and Recreation positions. FAQs
What type of computer setup is needed to apply online?You need a personal computer with a Web browser program and an Internet connection. I found a job! How do I apply for it?Bloomington Parks and Recreation accepts online applications for open positions only. Open positions are posted on the Job Opportunities Web page, left navigation bar. A separate application must be submitted for each available position. Applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on the closing date of the recruitment. On your first visit to Job Opportunities, you will need to establish an account, create a user ID and password, and set up with a reminder question to help you remember your password. Complete each part of the application in detail. Add additional work history and education as needed. Start with the most recent experience/educational entry when prioritizing your information. Each time you input information, you will need to click on the "Save and View Application" button. If the system is inactive for more than 60 minutes, it will automatically log you off and you may have to re-enter some information. This program receives Federal funds from the U.S. Department of the Interior. Accordingly, all of its public programs and activities must be operated free from discrimination, on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. How do I get an e-mail address?Free e-mail accounts are available through a number of providers. The City of Bloomington does not endorse any particular provider, but examples of free providers include: Microsoft, Yahoo, Google and America Online. How long will it take to apply for a job?On average, allow approximately 30-45 minutes to complete an application. After you complete the section labeled "Agency Wide Questions," you can either click the "Save and Proceed" button to move to the next step of the application process or click the "Save Work in Progress" button and complete at a later time. Note: You must click the "Confirm" button at the end of the application by 4:30 p.m. on the posted close date to be considered for recruitment. How can I verify that my application has been received?If you submitted electronically, you will receive an e-mail confirmation upon submission. To verify the positions you have submitted applications for, go to www.governmentjobs.com, click on the "Career Seekers" tab and login with your user ID and password. Then click on the "Application Status" tab. Is there an application deadline?The closing date for each position is listed on the Job Opportunities Web page, left navigation bar. All application materials must be received by 4:30 p.m. on the posted close date. Once a position closes, it will be removed from the Web page and applications will not be accepted. Some job opportunities list "Continuous" under the closing date. These opportunities remain open until filled. I missed the deadline. Can I still apply?Once a closing date for a position has passed, no applications will be accepted or considered. Continue to visit the Job Opportunities Web page, left navigation bar, and apply for new jobs as they become available. You may also want to complete a Job Interest Card, left navigation bar, to be automatically notified when an appropriate position opens. How can I obtain/submit a paper copy of the Parks and Recreation Temporary/Seasonal Employment Application?Download the application in Acrobat Acrobat* PDF format, or pick up a copy at: City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation You may submit your completed application to the same address. How can I add additional employment or education entries?Go to www.governmentjobs.com, click on the "Career Seekers" tab and login with your user ID and password. You will see a list of your applications. Choose the one you want to modify and click the "Edit" link. Click the "Add Education" or "Add Work Experience" links in each section. List education and/or work experience in chronological order, starting with most recent. After each entry, click the "Save and View Application" button. How do I change my address, telephone, or e-mail information?If the position is currently open, you may contact Parks and Recreation at 952-563-8877 during regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. How do I edit or delete the information on my online job application?Go to www.governmentjobs.com, click on the "Career Seekers" tab and login with your user ID and password. You will see a list of your applications. Choose the one you want to modify and click the "Edit" link. Use the links on the page to change your information. Note: This does not update information for any jobs you have already applied for. How can I review the status of recruitment, my account or application?Go to www.governmentjobs.com, click on the "Career Seekers" tab and login with your user ID and password. Then click on the "Application Status" tab. You will see a list of your applications and their status. How will I know when Parks and Recreation is hiring for a specific job?You may complete a Job Interest Card, left navigation bar, for notification of specific jobs or job categories. When a position with that title is posted, you will receive notification at the e-mail address you provide. How do I know if I am qualified for this job?Minimum qualifications and supplemental questions are listed in the job bulletin. Your application and any other materials required on the job bulletin will be carefully reviewed to determine whether you meet these qualifications. Your education and experience, licenses, certificates and special skills will be reviewed. If all information is not provided, you may be considered unqualified or less qualified than other applicants. How will I be contacted regarding the status of the position I applied for?You will be contacted by Bloomington Parks and Recreation. Failure to respond may result in removal from the eligible list. Do I have to submit a separate application for each posting?Yes. However, once you create an account, you may build an application and submit that application for multiple jobs by clicking the "Populate" button to automatically answer the agency-wide questions. Review and update your application as necessary. Once your account is created, applying for positions is quick and easy. What if I am not chosen?Bloomington Parks and Recreation's objective is to hire the best person for the job; therefore, vacancies are competitive. Numerous qualified people will apply for the same position. If you are not successful in getting a job, try not to feel discouraged.
